New Moon in Virgo 3rd September 02:55
Full Moon Eclipse in Pisces 18th September
The New Moon in Virgo is just in time for the end of the school holidays in the UK and marks the beginning of a new academic year. Astrologically, as Saturn in Pisces opposes the Sun and Moon, there is a sense of getting down to work, of learning important lessons and committing to sorting out deeper issues.
The Virgo New Moon is pushing for perfection in our new beginnings. It is acutely aware of every detail, every bump that interrupts the smooth sheet of a fresh start. The connection to Saturn, which is now retrograde, is bringing up old ideals and reminding us of what we may wish we could control. There is a conflict in the chart between starting anew and yearning to turn back the clock. Like some kind of flux capacitor, retrograde Saturn has the power to take us back on a journey of reflection. What we choose to do when we revisit the past is up to us. It’s easy to get lost there. Saturn is taking us back on this journey and pulling us back from the energy of the New Moon for a reason. Wise Saturn knows that we have something to let go of now. Nostalgic reminiscing can create an illusion of a ‘better’ time. We imagine things were easier when we look through a rose-tinted rearview mirror but, in reality, the journey we are on, no matter how hard, is the right one. Jupiter, squaring Saturn, is both exacerbating the influence of this journey and, in Gemini, hurrying the process along. Jupiter knows that the opportunities which are coming are worth believing in. It’s pushing us to find the faith that we need in ourselves and in our deeper purpose, and to let go of illusions which only hold us back. To show generosity to our future self by choosing now to release the pull of old wounds and wishes unfulfilled. The planets are saying, “let them go, empty your cup. Let us fill it back again with what is right for you now…”
The power of this New Moon can be incorporated into our lives when we acknowledge what is pulling us back and consciously choose to let go of it. To release ourselves from the pressure of perfect and just begin. We do not have to have all the answers now. Mercury, the ruler of this Moon, is in Leo and connecting to Chiron in Aries. Healing old wounds through new beginnings has been a theme throughout the year. This is another poignant moment to honour our courage to move towards what is right. Uranus in Taurus is squaring Mercury and making a harmonious connection to Pluto which has just retrograded back into Capricorn. This combination is like the cosmos is daring us, encouraging us, to make a break for freedom, to break the mould of expectation and to make an important change. Pluto, and Mars, still swollen up with Jupiter’s energy, are connecting to Neptune in Pisces. Whilst Saturn worries about what could go wrong, this creates another thread of thought… These three planets have great influence. Conspiring together they make us wonder, “what if it all goes right?”…
The energy of this chart is pulling in different directions. This may feel a little complicated but these are the moments which are pivotal to shifting and clearing things up. There is movement here, breakthrough energy, and creativity. If this New Moon is teaching us a lesson, it is to trust in the process. To believe in making the world a better place and to live your inner truth. It’s a reminder that although it can feel overwhelming when we look at what is beyond our control, if we instead focus on what we can do, and take things step by step, we can empower ourselves to find success and healing.
This New Moon is brave enough to make a start, to take that first step into the future, even though we may feel drawn back to the past. The Virgo energy is practical. Every tiny move we make to grow ourselves a new beginning counts. It may not look like much but the process of decluttering emotional complexity and dealing with what we have been through represents real, tangible healing. Small steps, taken one at a time, methodically and with purpose, will lead to enormous progress and powerful transformation.
This Virgo New Moon knows all too well that any ‘overnight success’ or ‘instant cure’ is just an illusion. For lasting healing and a future which we are in control of, we have to do the work. Step by step. In the right order. Every little part counts in the bigger picture. Focusing on the little details now will help prepare for the joy of future success. A sense of things working and running efficiently which allows time and energy for healing and moving forwards.
Guided Meditation
Are you thinking too much? Are you breathing deeply? Are you taking time to get enough rest? Are you productive enough? Relaxing adequately? There’s a lot of laundry to do… Did you remember to turn the oven off? What time is it? How do you quieten a mind which won’t shut up?! Meditating or mindfulness is tricky when the Moon is in Virgo. We might feel primed for thinking and for being thorough. Making time to relax may seem impossible. But Virgo energy needs flexibility as much as it needs a plan. The lesson is in letting go. Just take a minute or two to listen to your body. To notice each toe, one by one. Then, bring your attention to every centimetre of your foot and see how it feels as it connects to the ground beneath it. You don’t have to do anything else. It can all wait. Just take a moment to connect to your body. To ask it, what it needs. Let’s move up, bit by bit, together. Just take a moment. See how you feel, not what you think. Let yourself move where you need to. To stretch what needs to be moved and to let any part of you which feels heavy, to rest. Taking this time now is your only priority. This is what is important. Take the time to listen to your body and to hear what it needs. You are enough. You are strong. You are flexible. You have all the time in the world to do what you need.
