New Moon in Scorpio – 28th October 03:38
Full Moon in Taurus – 12th November 13:34
“I draw from the well what I like. The well has both mud and water.”
― Vineet Raj Kapoor
Emotions flow and are charged and passionate. A deep pool of energy erupts from the depths of the Earth, reflecting the astrological configurations in our Universe and demanding that we pay attention. Mud emerges and bubbles over the edge of the well. What has laid hidden within reveals itself. The Earth shifts slightly and changes inevitably take time to be digested. There is no way to avoid the pressure of the force beneath in its urge to be released. The explosions, the destruction and the inevitable rubble will follow. We will deconstruct before we can rebuild again.
The New Moon occurs on 28th October in Scorpio, close to the 31st – All Hallows Eve – Samhain – when the veil between life and death is traditionally thought to be at its thinnest. Scorpio is a feminine Water sign, Fixed and ruled by Pluto, the god of Life, Death and Transformation. On this occasion, the image is of a woman, her expression angry and fearsome. She is draped in a dark cloak and perhaps even a pointed hat. Sensuous, wiry, strong, and intense, she flies through the world, determined to clear the wrongs she sees taking place. On her annual New Moon visit to the Earth, she urges us to see the forces of both Light and Dark within us and to look deeper into our own psyche. This time, she is dangerous, deep, moody, emotional – and committed to tackling the changes she feels are urgently needed.
All those who have reason to feel guilty about their darker deeds and hateful thoughts have reason to fear her! Humanity can no longer drag its heels. Scorpio New Moon is the concentrated energy of transformation. She cares passionately about the fate of us all. Not frightened to force all misdeeds, pain and dark negativity out into the open, Mother Thunder flies through the sky, forked staff in hand, ready to throw lightning bolts of illumination and destruction to the Earth below her when it is necessary. This could be the beginning of a transformation from Dark into Light.
The New Moon, occurring at 03.38 (UK time) forecasts endings and transformative beginnings. She is challenged to confrontation by her exact opposition to Uranus in Taurus. Uranus favours rebellion. Venus and Mercury conjunct are also in Scorpio (sesquiquadrate the North Node conjunction). They stand together in their search for truth, balance and harmony for Humanity. It’s probably helpful that this Scorpio-sharpened Mercury goes retrograde on 31st until 20th November as Mars also holds a strong square to the North Node/Saturn/Pluto conjunction at the moment of the New Moon which will further create anger and rebellion against old, established systems. Perhaps the confrontational nature of the communications we experience on the 28th, 29th and 31st (including the curses and the spells!?) will hold less intensity once Mercury starts his retrograde.
We have had many astrological reminders this year about the need to check that our own ‘houses are in order’. Here we have another opportunity to dig even deeper. Scorpio holds the energy of both surrender and direct action. Inevitably, not all negativity that might emerge from the depths our subconscious will be of our own making. Here’s an opportunity to look at the concept of ‘surrender’ and at the more emotionally driven parts of ourselves. Perhaps there are areas of ourselves that we keep hidden – and, perhaps we could surrender control – just enough – to acknowledge them this month!
The ‘personal intentions’ that we make individually at the time of the approaching New Moon in Scorpio will naturally affect the ethos of others. Time to make some important plans and wishes. Here is a meditation you could use to gently investigate your deeper selves in preparation for the 28th:
Suggested Meditation:
In a quiet space (ideally with bare feet on the earth), breath deeply and become aware of the calmness of your inner self. Visualise the space clearly. Imagine a pool of water in front of you. Allow negative thoughts and darker memories to bubble to the surface from the depths of your being. Be certain you are safe and protected within this space. There is unlikely to be anything there that you cannot safely observe but only acknowledge what you feel completely safe to do. Allow yourself to observe what you may have been hiding until now. Breath deeply and allow yourself to visualise these things as images, tastes, smells or emotions in front of you. Name them, experience them objectively – and realise the unique opportunity you have here to start to neutralise their strength and to dissolve them. Your intention is to increase the strength of the Light within you.
1: Write down or speak what you have seen or felt. No need to analyse or to dwell on sad memories. What is – is. Throughout this Lunar Month, these things may, to greater or lesser degrees, be resolved – and released with love – if you choose to do so.
2: Resolve to regularly revisit what you have found in this meditation throughout the coming Lunar month. Surrender to truth, observe the changes and how they change how you feel. Allow your own personal change and transformation to blossom.
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
As within, so without. The astrological situation in the Universe reflects the political climate everywhere on the Earth – and nowhere more pertinently than in the UK New Moon chart (London). As well as the North Node being conjunct the MC of the chart in Cancer and opposite the Saturn/Pluto/South Node. Jupiter (Justice) is not aspected. Even though the Ascendant of the London chart is at the beginning of Libra, I feel that the Brexit fiasco has little chance of resolution on 31st October! It will probably drift on.
Nevertheless, the forces of Scorpio have more chance of shifting present deadlocks than most – both within the UK and elsewhere in the world. Mars in Libra is square both the North Node in Cancer and the Pluto/Saturn conjunction in Capricorn. (NN/SN axis on MC/Pluto/Saturn opposition in London). There is anger concerning both authority and our ‘duty of care’. The North Node/MC conjunction is trine both the New Moon and Neptune in Pisces in the 6th house of the London chart and Chiron is on the Descendant which accents the higher frequency of awareness concerning those who have become victims of government policies. New ideas will continue to emerge that could become helpful. Those whose motivations are concealed within those ‘dark spaces’ (often well hidden) might take the opportunity to allow a shift their awareness and to allow change to happen!
Much as I would personally like change and transformation to manifest from the ‘Left’ side of political policy, I acknowledge that all opinions will be affected by the energetic shift promised by the New Moon in Scorpio! People from every standpoint will chose to anchor themselves as deep in the mud as possible to prevent movement. There is a lot of ‘flingable’ mud available from our fixed positions – as it slurps stickily around us! Deep rooted attitudes and traditions do not give up their stances easily but they will, some time in the future, be forced to surrender to change.
Our concepts of what we visualise as ‘New Beginnings for Humanity’ inevitably reflects our personal held beliefs. Will you – and I – choose to observe our own negativity – and let it go? Can we use the energy of this New Moon in Scorpio to transform our darker attitudes and prejudices into Light and Re-Birth?
“She made beauty all round her. When she trod on mud, the mud was beautiful; when she ran in the rain, the rain was silver. When she picked up a toad – she had the strangest and, I thought, unchanciest love for all manner of brutes – the toad became beautiful.” ― C.S. Lewis, Til We Have Faces
