New Moon in Libra – 6th October 12:05 (BST)
Full Moon in Aries – 20th October
“In a time of domestic crisis, men of goodwill and generosity should be able to unite regardless of party or politics.” John F. Kennedy
The New Moon stands on a hillside, silhouetted against the sky, Sun and Moon are together with Mars – and with Mercury just a little further away (7 degrees). All are in Libra. The sky behind them is dawn-bright with the promise of a powerful opportunity for a New Beginning. They stand together, within the rosy aura of the sign of Libra – and on the hilltop opposite them stands Chiron, alone in Aries, the gold and silver light from the Sun and Moon shining directly onto a face that reveals the pain of recent crisis and wounds. Across the gulf between them, Chiron recognises the potential for healing that emanates from the planets confronting him. Within his heart, the fire of Hope kindles and he senses the possibility that healing, peace and balance might be on its way.
Libra is a Cardinal Air sign, ruled by Venus. Symbolised traditionally by a pair of scales, the energy seeks balance, love peace and unity beyond all else. Air signs are thoughtful and communicative – and Libra is an intrepid traveller, thinking her way forward through complex situations, always with the aim of finding safe places of balance and harmony. Cardinally, Libra is inspired to start initiatives through which she can manifest those things. Libra is dedicated to the concept of maintaining harmonious relationships between both herself and others and between mankind and the natural world.
Libra energy also holds a fear of ‘UN-balance’, particularly when there is a surrounding atmosphere of animosity and conflict. She can be thrown off-balance but will always continue to seek better relationships, more harmony, more balance, more beauty and the easy flow of positivity and Love. Standing so closely this month to Mars, the energy becomes interesting. Mars is ruled by Aries, the opposite sign to Libra. Mars is raw, cutting, spontaneous, eruptive. It is action and a sense of ‘all caution to the wind’. It is confrontation and even war. It will be seeking to motivate and add a huge dose of action-inducing energy to Libra. Here is turbo-charged energy seeking a new beginning and some serious rebalancing!
At the point of this New Moon in Libra, there are concerns about our environment and about earth movements involving volcanos and earthquakes and the consequent reactions they create on the weather, the environment and humanity. The delicate balance of every eco-system within the world is in focus. We are in search of balance within imbalance.
A strong wind fills the sails of the New Moon in Libra and causes the boat to leap forwards with a force that will cut purposefully through the roughest seas of change with energy and success. Adding to this energy, Pluto (square the New Moon) will turn direct again (after being retrograde in Capricorn for six months) just a few hours after the New Moon occurs! Pluto ‘takes no prisoners’ and any challenge he presents has to be met! The square adds more volatility to the Libra New Moon conjunct Mars. Libra must react to Pluto and Mars as they cry, “Forward!”. There is an urgent need for transformation and action. They will not be denied and if that involves cataclysmic events to get the point across, then so be it!
Saturn also goes direct on the 11th October – and Mercury and Jupiter, retrograde until 18th October, turn direct again on the same day! Retrograding planets give us an opportunity to revisit the energy of the past. Mercury, at the time of New Moon is trine Jupiter, encouraging expansive, positive communications. We have gone over his old ground – and perhaps we have learned! This month, we are guaranteed a massive turn-about in energy, a gear change, a wind change, an upgrading of positivity levels!
Uranus, awkwardly inconjunct the New Moon and Mars, remains retrograde in Taurus until January 18th 2022. We must change things and act differently from before – is the message. Neptune is retrograde in Pisces, inconjunct the new Moon, adding a sense of loss and uncertainty until the beginning of December – but also an increased ability to be in touch with the spiritual, cosmic worlds and the collective consciousness. Retrograde planets, by definition, tend to take us backwards over old ground on both personal and global levels, especially when several are doing it at the same time – a situation that has been with us since May. It’s very good news that the tide is turning and that four planets: Pluto – the planet of transformation, Saturn – authority and structure, Jupiter – expansion and justice and Mercury – communication and versatility – are all turning direct during the month of October, creating energy, heralded by the New Moon in Libra, that is potent, powerful and significant.
Here on Earth – as many of us struggle to move forwards and adjust to changing circumstances – we have an opportunity to take courage from the New Moon’s astrological weather and to use the energy to our personal advantage. The volatile ‘fighting spirit’ of Mars standing beside the New Moon might seem ominous when it comes to our personal relationships – dangerous even! Rebellious Uranus is also inconjunct the New Moon and seeks action and change. We may feel forced to ‘stick up for ourselves’ and express feelings we’ve kept hidden within situations that have been disharmonious or imbalanced. There are frustrations that could ‘spill over’ into confrontations. Take care! We are likely to feel emotional and ‘volcanic’, maybe driven to make spontaneous declarations of our wounded feelings. Relationships of all kinds, personally and globally, could end suddenly and irrevocably – and unlikely new ones might begin! (Mercury conjunct Sun, Moon and Mars and square Pluto).
Perhaps we will need to remember that Mercury in Libra (even conjunct Mars, trine Jupiter in Aquarius, inconjunct Neptune in Pisces and square Pluto in Capricorn) is rooted in seeking new horizons that are fair, harmonious, responsible and creative and is determined to find them! Saturn, in Aquarius, both trine the New Moon and the North Node in Gemini, will place some necessary boundaries of restraint on discussions. Globally, this really could be looked back on as a time when negotiations led to positive allegiances, mended broken connections and cleared the way for improving and restructuring relationships. Hope!
The urge to resolve frustrations by becoming more clearly outspoken about injustices and imbalance could also be a theme at the New Moon, precarious on a personal level if one is dealing with our relationships as opposed to diplomatic relations between countries! Venus (Scorpio) is conjunct the South Node (Sagittarius). Perhaps it’s time to look at conflicts from the past in a kinder light!
It seems important to use the powerful nature of this New Moon in Libra carefully and to consider the hopes, intentions and wishes for the month ahead with due attention. Here are some ideas.
Suggested meditation: Sit silently, with eyes closed and connect to your heart chakra. Create a sense of peace and harmony within and around you by breathing in Peace and breathing out Love…….
Affirmation: We seek balance, harmony, clarity and peace. This Lunar Month we create them with the power of our determination and the strength of our thoughts.
Ho!
