New Moon in Aries – 16th April 02:57 (BST)
Full Moon in Scorpio, 30th April 2018
Here we are at the beginning of another astrological journey – our emotions again influenced by the prospect of a new beginning both for the Lunar Month ahead and the Lunar Year too. Here’s the fiery spark that is Aries, the impetus to ‘get up and go’ on a new adventure. He is impatient to start the journey. We feel the need to leave negativity behind and to rise up like a phoenix, expectant and enthusiastic at the prospect of the year ahead. We’re ready to leave any residual fog behind and welcome the bright energy of new possibilities that the Moon beams our way.
Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac – fiery, masculine, Cardinal and ruled by Mars. Cardinal signs are the initiators, the creators of ideas. Aries energy is spontaneous, doesn’t necessarily think before he acts and sometimes doesn’t see things through to the end either – unless he keeps his eye firmly on the goal. He has the energy of a flame that has just been ignited. How big, how bright will it become – or will it go out? Fire is stored Sun energy and without that energy nothing would grow or move in a world with no light or warmth. The fire of the New Moon in Aries is the start of the Moon’s yearly progression through the Zodiac. (The Sun began its journey on 20th March.)
The image is of an energetic young man about to start his ‘gap year’ travels around the world on his own. He may not be sure of the details or the route he will take. His excitement is in the unknown – the foreign places and people he’ll meet and what he might learn about himself and about life itself. It’s a simple, straightforward concept and he’s impetuous, energetic and raring to go. As long as he travels in the general direction of each new destination, he is confident he will get there. He might seem arrogant and over-confident – but confidence is what he needs to start the journey. He carries just enough for his simple needs and is armed with his determination and enthusiasm. Potential fun and romance, the experiences and the travelling itself are all important goals. The ‘unknown’ makes it exciting. He will create his destiny through his experiences.
All of us, young, old or somewhere in between, have an opportunity to open ourselves to the energy of this Aries New Moon. Like children stepping forward into life, we can explore possibilities by recognising the value of innocence and trust. We sometimes plant seeds in our spring gardens without much thought as to how we’ll nurture them and what they might grow into. It’s difficult to fully understand the innate potency of the energy encapsulated within every single seed. The same is true of the seeds that we sow this month within our lives. We can’t be casual with our intentions. They need consideration and nurture. What we visualise, the seeds we sow and how we nurture is intensely powerful at this time. We need to keep our eyes on our goals. So we must dig deep to find the right seeds because what they grow into will have a direct impact on the world we are collectively creating. Rarely has this been more so than at this point in time.
Here are some points to carefully consider as we formulate our intentions and wishes for the New Moon on 16th April at 02.57:
Suggested meditation: Visualise yourself as you were in your early 20s with your life spread out in front of you – full of potential and possibilities. You were excited, eager to learn and to start. Remember…..
(If you are at that age now, focus on your most positive state at this time!)
Take note of how those feelings make you feel throughout your whole body. Now imagine that, like a seed about to grow into the light, you have the potential to flourish and to become the person you would most want to be – the most truthful version of you in all your power. See it and allow yourself to feel hope, certainty and potential. Trust the images you visualise with a clear and open heart.
Here are some points to consider:
Affirmations:
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
Warmongers may seek War and Peacemakers may seek Peace but, whatever, the power balances are very likely to change soon. There are strong and familiar similarities between the astrology of the late 1960s and the New Moon Chart this month – a growing desire from deep within society for a less material and more caring world (‘aging hippies’ – reflect!). Pluto is square the New Moon heralding transformation and compulsive, inevitable change. Children and young people (of all ages) are likely to respond to the call of both the New Moon in Aries and Uranus, conjunct in the sky. The energy is of rebellion, revolution and renewal – and the need to assert a counter-opinion towards the status quo. Already, in the USA, students have organised themselves in protest, demanding changes in gun laws in response to the escalation in the number of crimes. The trend of ‘youth protest’ is likely to spread to other areas of conflict and, at last, humanity’s wounded might find their voices. Sooner or later those in power will have to listen. Aries says what he feels, sometimes without thinking. There will be spontaneous – and sometimes aggressive – behaviour but, hopefully, clarity and truth will emerge. Each aware individual needs to project their own truth to help this process.
The stranglehold of Conservatism, Capitalism and the unfair balance of wealth and power throughout the world is all-pervasive, destructive and dysfunctional for many people. The New Moon within the present astrological landscape, marks a powerful time when a direct and powerful wave of rebellion could start to grow in momentum. Mercury, direct on 15th April, contributes fluidity of movement and communication. He picked up the energy of Chiron as he was retrograde but, once direct, is dragging an intensified awareness of humanity’s wounded – and the urgent need for healing – with him into the future. Venus in Taurus opposing Jupiter in Scorpio create passion, unpredictability and an awareness of the need for the control of strong emotional reactions. This opposition reminds us to take care of each other. Food distribution, the environment and inequality are central issues. The North Node in Leo is creative and reflects the importance of the moment. Pluto, Mars and Saturn, together in Capricorn create structure and bring awareness of the need for gravity. Mars is square Mercury – battles!
We will hopefully become more aware of the need to understand the negative consequences of impulsive aggression and assertions of power. Here’s an opportunity to seriously reorganise our structures and our belief systems. Extreme contradictions and conflicts of interests might inevitably result in huge, screaming, explosive and expansive transformation – painful for some and a relief for others. Be prepared!
As without, so within. This month offers us a unique possibility to renew ourselves from the inside out. Which issues, both internal and external will reveal themselves in response to this spark of intense energy. What raging fires will manifest? It’s difficult to understand the strength of the unique power emanating from the astrology of the New Moon this month – and hard to visualise the possible consequences. Everything that we are, what we think, say and do at this time could have repercussions in the outside world. The Butterfly Effect incarnate!
Simply and with purpose – let’s make like Aries!
Watch this Space!
Love and Peace…..
