New Moon in Aries 12th April 03:31 (BST)
Super Full Moon in Scorpio 27th April
“No matter how long Winter may have seemed, all life occurs in cycles. The wheel turns and Spring is here again – bright, intense and full of colour, joy and purpose.”
We wake from a deep sleep, shake off our bedding and, still partly clothed in dreams, we stumble towards the fire circle. We heard the gentle drumming and the conch shell calling us here. We greet the New Aries Moon Cycle that is about to begin, peering blurrily from half-woken states in the flickering light. Outlines begin to draw themselves around nebulous shapes and matter manifests definition and movement. We rub our eyes, focus on the fire and begin to see more clearly. As the energy fills our bellies, we visualise our direction and renewed purpose in the dawn light. We feel more confidence than we have experienced for some time. We feel, within ourselves, a growing sense of hope and know for certainty that our seedling dreams have a chance to grow into physical reality.
Aries is a Cardinal Fire sign, ruled by Mars, symbolised by the curled horns and head of The Ram. The Sun’s ingress into this sign has already marked the beginning of the Astrological Year (Spring Equinox, 20th March). Our sense of purpose is further renewed as the New Lunar Year dawns. Flanked by Mercury and Chiron on one side (Aries) and Venus (Aries) and Uranus (Taurus) on the other, the energy of Aries intensifies as the New Moon takes his place. Aries is the pioneer, the adventurer, the Fool of the Tarot who sets bravely out on his journey – charismatic, wild and straightforward, his red hair streaming behind him as he starts purposely on his journey. He is direct, fast, energetic, focussed – and afraid of nothing except obstructions to his progress.
This month, the astrological environment around the New Moon, places emphasis on our values and may cause us to reassess our foundational beliefs and the reasons we hold them. How did they evolve within us and what is the logic behind them? A bewildering array of potentiality in the way we choose to move forwards could also arrive with the shift of energy. Should we reassess our values? What is really important and what no longer serves a purpose? We need to choose our goals carefully if we are to commit to going for them within this powerful energy. Mercury (7 degrees from New Moon) gives us a gift of focussed thought and honest, direct communication – both within ourselves and with others. Such is the difference between the quality of the energies of the last Lunar Month’s Piscean emphasis and this Lunar Month’s shift into Aries, that we may find that we feel generally ‘different’. We are, as the New Moon dawns, in a state of adjustment as the mists of the last few months clear. We focus our strength into the effort of pulling the lifeboat away from what may, at times, have felt like a floundering ship.
We are ‘fired up’, allowing ourselves to feel a renewed sense of optimism and purpose as we set out on a new, yearly Lunar cycle. Saturn (Aquarius) trine the North Node (Gemini) challenges us to bring structure to our dreams (Mars, Gemini square Neptune, Pisces)! What we aspire to now has the power to move us forward over the approaching year. Where can we best focus this potent energy? Here are some ideas:
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
Our lifestyles continue to face challenges from outside of us (and perhaps from inside). Pluto in Capricorn strongly squares the New Moon, encouraging a deepening awareness of the urgency for all of us to re-think the structures of our societies and the beliefs from which they have developed. Conjunct Mercury and sextile Mars (Gemini) and Jupiter (Aquarius), this New Moon may continue to generate the confrontations and fiery communications that rattle noisily around us. Like fighting rams, locked in machismo power–conflicts, issues continue to be ‘thrashed out’ (or studiously avoided as being irrelevant by others). Could the energy of Aries at last bring the battles to crises that will break through barriers and perpetrate conclusions?
Whose dreams should we be fighting for? (Neptune in Pisces square with Mars in active and airy Gemini) There is likely to be continued rebellion against what appears to be the trend towards restriction of movement and selective control of some over others globally. Uranus in Taurus, holding his role in the New Moon environment, is inconjunct the South Node (the past). In some ways, ‘increased control’ and continuing ‘austerity’ is an inevitable reaction on the part of Governments as they attempt to create order out of the chaos created by the effects of the global pandemic. Public protest and calls for reform are also inevitable consequences.
The stellium concentrated in Aries at New Moon is likely to inject diplomacy, deeper thought and more compassionate reason into tense current debates (Venus sextile Mars in Gemini and Jupiter in Aquarius). Potentially, here is an opportunity to create new friendships, contacts and agreements between countries and to become more aware of the importance of honouring the needs and vulnerabilities of each other. The North Node in Gemini trine Saturn in Aquarius contributes towards a trend for all of us to look towards ways that we can work together in the future.
The astrological ‘climate’ screams for us to finely hone our individual sense of integrity. We are reminded, at this New Moon in Aries, that we are individuals with responsibility, not only for our own behaviours, but also for our contributions towards the collective consciousness. This New Moon may also help us to finally break through emotional and mental barriers into new territory. Is the realisation dawning that generosity, empathy and the sharing of resources can only help us all ultimately to move forward?
What touches each of us affects all. The Earth sustains, not only Humanity, but all living things. We will act with fearlessness, courage and clarity – and will seek rise to the challenge of finding a way of establishing harmony and peace.
Ho!
“We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.” Mahatma Ghandi
