Roar Lion, Roar. Your roar is often worse than your bite. But not always. Be gentle with us, Leo Moon because some of us feel bruised, battered, fearful and shaken. We need your protection, your strong sense of family, your creativity and the knowledge that we are part of your pack to take us forward into this Lunar phase. We need to borrow your calm dignity and your occasional ferocity in these difficult times. We need to feel you are on our side as the New Lunar Cycle begins.
During the Lunar month that starts on the 11th August, we have to make time to attune to the strength of benign Leo energy. The Partial Solar Eclipse reinforces the need for us to centre ourselves and to find a centre of peace within our extended family ‘pride’ – to take a moment to process all the changes and turmoil that are taking place both inside and outside of ourselves. This is potentially a Grand New Beginning for us, both personally and as part of humanity.
Leo is a Fixed, Masculine, Fire Sign, ruled by the Sun himself – around whom all our planets rotate. Sometimes, celestial bodies appear to go backwards – retrograde – in the sky from the vantage point of the Earth, as they pass behind the Sun. Jupiter, having been retrograde until 10th July, has brought an expansion and an awareness of wider perspective – a focus on the rights and wrongs of justice and injustice within the world. But there will be six celestial bodies in retrograde at this New Moon/Solar Eclipse moment – Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Mars, Mercury and Chiron. This is unusual and gives us a unique opportunity to assimilate and to ‘reap what we have sown’ as life appears to slow down. There is time to consider and reflect while we experience increased sunlight and long days.
The image is of a Lion, royal and dignified in his charismatic presence, his long main flowing in the wind, his eyes clear and perceptive. He is powerful and strong, a self-contained, sinewy ball of potential – and he can be more wild than other creatures when he needs to be. When resting, he emanates the confidence of a creature who knows that the world revolves around him. He dislikes disturbance or being forced to move. Left in peace, his energy is calm, creative, benevolent and warm and is aligned with the energy of the Heart and with Love. He is concerned with the care of the young – the cubs, the children. He is leader, protector and benign father most of the time – unless he perceives a threat to his domain. Then he roars and threatens death by the fire of his huge claws and razor sharp teeth.
We can make our intentions and wishes for the coming Lunar Month from a perspective of the inner calm – from our Hearts. Here are some points to consider:
- Major New Beginnings! Where shall I place my creative focus? What do I need to uniquely activate and radiate outwards from myself into the world?
- What new adventures can I have this month?
- How can I access my calm centre, my heart energy and my courage most easily?
- Is my dignity intact? What intentions can I make to create more pride and confidence in myself?
- Where is my place and who are my tribe? How can I protect and care for them?
- Where can I most constructively place my ‘wilder’ energy? What needs to be ‘dealt with’ – perhaps with a flash of my claws or a well-timed ‘snarl’?
- Who is part of my ‘pride’, my family, my tribe? How can I work for them?
IN A MUNDANE KIND OF WAY
Eclipses (this one, the third in a series of three) often bring the world to a crisis that leads to positive change. It’s always good to look up where this New Moon/Eclipse might contact your chart and in which house it will take place. In Donald Trump’s chart, it takes place in his 12th house. Will there be undercover activities going on that he knows nothing about? Or is he fully conscious of his own subterranean ‘goings on’? Interesting. The craziness has to stop! Mars is at its closest to Earth and is still doing his best to create ‘murder and mayhem’. His energy is ultra-strong – and along with that comes impulsiveness, flashes of anger and shows of strength. We need that energy and force because things need to be done, changed, activated but we don’t need unconscious, knee jerk reactions from government leaders!
All politicians will be feeling these influences in one way or another, whatever they believe in, and so it is important for the rest of us to make sure our voices are heard! The unpredictability of the square to Uranus is slowed by the retrograde motion of both. Relief! We know there are crisis all over the world but Jupiter (in Scorpio), now direct, gets out his enormous cosmic broom and could be about to sweep all the crap away and out into space. We stare at the signs: ‘Possible DANGER ahead! SLOW DOWN!’ suspended in the space around us and can allow ourselves the luxury of retrospection. We hope!
This is a window of opportunity for New Beginnings in big ways. But what about the children? Many Native American tribes are fiercely defensive and protective of both their children and of the young animals in their care. They believe they are sacred. However, they extend the concept to seedling creative ideas, believing that they too are children deserving sacred protection and care so they can flourish and achieve their full potential. Once grown, they have their own mission, their own individual journeys. If we start to destroy both creativity and children, we are, I believe, in trouble.
It’s interesting how much of an increase in the number of news stories about children being treated badly there has been – imprisoned children, children separated from their parents, refugee children with destroyed homes and murdered parents, abused children. Perhaps these stories really are a major symptom of a break in the ‘sacred hoop’ – the circle of spiritual and physical energy. Perhaps this is a call to take the present global situation seriously. Once humanity starts disregarding or even ‘punishing’ its children for the behaviour of adults, there’s not much further it can sink. Perhaps this New Moon and Partial Solar Eclipse will activate much needed Heart energy.
Some leaders might still be thrashing about insisting like toddlers that they get things their own way despite the fact that vast swathes of people might suffer as a result (Mars sextile Chiron in Aries). We have a choice to access our own sense of calm, refuse to be frightened by them and be active in opposition. Fear can only tie us into a matrix of negativity.
We can allow ourselves to be more introspective in a creative and constructive way this month. There may be continued chaos around us but we have an opportunity to seek out our heart’s desires and manifest them starting from our hearts, within which rests everything we most love – past, present and future. We can tune into the spark of creativity that comes directly from the Sun and, with the reinforcement of the partial Solar Eclipse, gestate and give birth to creative children (physically and creatively) who will be instrumental in changing the future of the planet. We have positive access to the source of courage and hope and are enabled to create new ideas from the safety of family and tribe.
May the fiery creativity of this Leo New Moon and partial Solar Eclipse fire us with its energy so that our focussed potential reaches an explosion of passionate, controlled expression! May we work towards governments of kind, powerful and protective leaders who take all of our needs into consideration!
