As the Sun movies into Virgo in 2010, we see that we still have the backdrop of the outer planets, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto fighting for supremacy, but thankfully, the inner planets take on a more pleasing pattern.

Let us remind ourselves of this battle. Saturn, responsible old father time who likes the status quo and dislikes change, is exalted in Libra and demands that we take responsibility for any and all relationships that we have in our lives. Saturn is a hard task master, rather like the teacher that we had at school who wagged a finger at us any time we missed the point. While Pluto has been squaring Saturn for some time now, relationships have been undergoing a lot of hard work with Pluto shedding light on old, outworn and outmoded relationship patterns. If we are in a relationship with the wrong person it will become very apparent at this time. Pluto insists that we let go of all that is unnecessary in our lives and any relationship that isn’t working may well be thrown on the heap, but only after a lot of deliberation, for Saturn is very thorough. Jupiter, the third party in the t-square, is no match for either of these now that he has lost the conjunction to Uranus and serves more as a magnifier of the other two, making the problem seem even larger. At this time, Uranus has slipped back into Pisces avoiding sign opposition but will be going back into Aries in late spring next year when circumstances, or sudden realisations will force us to make the necessary changes, By then we will know what needs to be changed and Uranus will give us the proverbial kick up the backside so that change will come about both abruptly and quickly. A lot of emotional purging will occur as Pluto brings these issues to the foreground of our consciousness and we will then be able to forge better relationships by building more workable structures in the area of relating. This does not only apply to love relationships. Looking at it from a world point of view, these planets are demanding that we find ways to get along with each other and heal the great divide, and if we can, Pluto will reward us with transformation. No small task.

Inside the major umbrella of the outer planets, we find Venus and Mars in an exact conjunction in Libra in a close trine to the Moon in Aquarius. No other planet is involved with this configuration. This is a lovely aspect and bodes well for communicating on an emotional level. The conjunction of Venus and Mars in Libra, in which Venus is exalted and Mars is in its detriment, makes the blending of the feminine and masculine energies a very natural process and both sides are given equal time. The moon in Aquarius is not very comfortable with emotions but is very caring about humanity in general and this air trine will do much to at least communicate in a loving, feeling way. This is made all the more important in this chart because Mercury, planet of communications, which is in its own sign, Virgo, is completely unaspected.

The Sun is an exact semi-square from the Venus/Mars duo and is also trine to Pluto. The semi-square to Mars here provides an awful lot of energy and passion, but it can often be directed wrongly. It’s as if what we wish to do is at odds with what we think we should do. With the semi square to Venus, It’s important to feel liked with this aspect. Venus will often deny the shadow side of the personality because it isn’t ‘ladylike’ or ‘gentlemanlike’. There is a huge quality of charm and diplomacy is well marked.

The Sun’s trine to Pluto is an excellent addition to this chart softening Pluto’s otherwise difficult aspect to Saturn. Deeply perceptive, this trine brings with it a huge reservoir of inner strength and much comprehension that is felt rather than learned. Sun trine Pluto is continually recreating and rebirthing itself, letting go of outworn modes of expression to allow room for regrowth and transformation. The Sun is also within the orb of an opposition to Neptune and Chiron which although it is not in opposite signs is still quite potent. In the chart cast for the UK, the Neptune/Chiron conjunction is in the 6th house of health whereas the Sun is in the 12th house, which amongst other things rules institutions. Once again, as we have seen frequently, the National Health Service is most affected by this opposition as the country sees cutbacks on spending, which may be due in part by the Sun quincunx (or inconjunct) Jupiter in the 8th house, the home of other people’s money. The quincunx aspect, at 150 degrees, is awkward at best, being five signs away, or one away from an opposition, and does not share elemental, modal/quality or even polarity with each other, making it a difficult aspect.

Almost everything in the chart is in either air or earth with the only exceptions being Jupiter in fire and Uranus in water. The air signs tend to be very communicative and are very people oriented, whereas the earth signs tend toward practicality and conservatism. A lack of fire shows a dearth of inspiration and self motivation; a lack of water lessens intuition and sensitivity to the world around us. Hopefully, the trine from the moon to the Venus/Mars conjunction will redress that lack.
Happy Solar Return to all our Virgo readers.
Blessing on us all,
Halla
